Welcome back to Term 2. The beautiful weather in the break was very soothing. I hope you all enjoyed some break from the daily routines of school and work.
Thanks to those who were able to support the ANZAC and Falling Leaf Festival events. I am always very proud seeing our boys and girls march or contribute to the local clubs and organisations they belong to outside of school.
Our staff professional learning day on Monday began our training as Youth Mental Health First Aiders. The day was spent with a trainer and staff will now attend two online evening workshops to complete the qualification. We are enormously grateful for the support of the “Dolly’s Dream Charity” which has fully funded this program at a cost of some $300/head. This is an outstanding opportunity for all our staff and is reflective of our commitment to prioritising the mental health of our students and families.
As we continue to grow and evolve, there are a number of projects on the boil. Most important is the Primary BGA project which involves the demolition of the admin and staff block and toilets as well as the Kinder and Year 5/6 rooms. Primary Rooms 9 and 10 will be refurbished also in line with the works. Tenders have been appointed and we met in the break to plan the placement of portable facilities and learning areas for the duration of the project. Anticipated start time will be at the beginning of Term 3 with a time frame of some 40 weeks being highlighted. We are grateful for the support of the NSW Block Grant Authority and Catholic Education on this (approximately) $5 million project.
We also continue to recruit new staff. In the coming days we will welcome Lisa Watling, who joins us as a canteen assistant, Meni Seumemanutafa working as an assistant in technical subjects and Jess Simpson who joins us in an admin/office role.
We also continue to recruit for Secondary teachers in various areas of expertise and subjects. Please encourage anyone you know who is qualified and keen to join our outstanding team to apply via the Catholic Education Canberra website.
Enrolments are currently opening for 2025. Due to high levels of demand, we are only looking at offering enrolment in kindergarten 2025. Other year level applications will need to be placed on a wait list and places offered according to CECG priority levels as places possibly become available.
Please enjoy a good term 2. Let’s support our boys and girls by encouraging good sleeping, eating and study habits. Those who are well organised, carefully planning and equipped with the right (positive) attitude will do well. As always please never hesitate to check in with your child’s classroom, PC or subject teachers to know how they are tracking at school.
Mary our mother look after us.

Last term Chisholm held their Spirit Day. The theme for the day was The Resilience Project- GEM. The students were asked to come dressed in Yellow/Orange for Gratitude, Green for Empathy or Purple for Mindfulness. The Resilience Project aligns closely with our College values and our ongoing efforts to nurture the holistic development of our students. By embracing gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness, we aim to cultivate resilience and emotional well-being within our school community. #resilienceproject
What a fantastic day at the Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese Netball Championships. All of our teams played so well and we managed to come away with lots of gold! Our Year 7/8 boys, 7/8 girls and 9/10 girls all won their Grand Final matches.
Congratulations to Alliana Roddy, Cybella Roddy, Hannah Hood and Sophie Webb who have been selected in the Archdiocesen Under 15s netball team. These girls gained selection as a result of their great performances at the Archdiocesan Netball Carnival in Canberra. Thanks to Mrs Stewart for organising this day.
NSW COMBINED CATHOLIC COLLEGES TOUCH FOOTBALL
Congratulations to Alliena Roddy who represented a combined Canberra Goulburn and Wagga Archdiocese touch football team at the NSW CCC Championships. Alliena played well as her team won the final 4-1 against Broken Bay.
TAFE - INTRODUCTION TO NURSING
Year 10 and 11 students who are interested in working in the health care industry, including nursing and aged care have been attending TAFE for the last five weeks. Students learnt basic skills such as taking vital signs, eg: temperature, pulse respiration and a range of health care skills, eg: manual handling using a patient lifter, exercise, physio and occupational therapy.
We love buddy time! Kinder and some Year 5/6 students spent some time using computers. The older students supported the Kinders to login and play some Matheltics, which is a great resource our school uses. Thanks for helping us out 5/6 class and we look forward to spending more time together this term.
5/6 have been busy researching, designing and making natural disaster proof models of houses and bridges. Early next term, we will test and evaluate how they will stand the test against floods, cyclones and earthquakes through simulations.
Term 2 fees will be issued by Catholic Education next week. There are still a number of families with Term 1 fee balances. Please organise payments via BPAY as soon as possible or contact the school for a conversation.
An invitation is extended to any almost-teens, teens and young adults to "The Unexpected Mess of it All" book launch on Saturday May 11 at 2pm at the Wagga Wagga Library. Spaces are filling up and bookings are essential via the Wagga Library.

On Friday 10th May, we will be hosting a Fundraising Day in support of an incredibly meaningful cause, 'A Day for Dolly'
Dolly's Dream is a powerful initiative dedicated to raising awareness and preventing bullying, particularly among young people. Named in honour of Dolly Everett, whose life was tragically cut short due to the impacts of bullying, this foundation stands as a beacon of hope and advocacy. Its mission is to create positive change in the lives of children and adolescents, promoting kindness, respect, and resilience in the face of adversity.
We will mark this day by inviting our students to come to school dressed in blue and donating a gold coin to a Day for Dolly. Blue symbolises peace, unity, and harmony, serving as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to stand up against bullying in all its forms.
Thank you for your support and commitment to our shared vision of a kinder, more compassionate world.
BEYOND WORDS CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION
We’re excited to announce the return of the Dymocks Beyond Words Creative Writing Competition, specifically tailored to engage and inspire primary and high school students! Having had significant success last year with over 4,000 applicants, we are going bigger than ever in 2024! We understand that time is precious but we're confident that the benefits of this competition will quickly become apparent to both you and your students.
Our goal is to celebrate and nurture the creative talents of young writers across Australia. Through this competition, we hope to spark the imagination of your students, fostering a lifelong love for writing and storytelling. This competition is a unique opportunity for all Australian wordsmiths to be recognised as the judging criteria recognises both the technical writing of the student as well as storytelling (artistic merit of the writer's idea).
There are many benefits for schools that participate in the competition:
-
Boost student engagement and confidence: Encouraging students to participate in the competition will improve their writing skills and build their self-esteem as they see their work being recognized. All students receive a participation certificate for submitting an entry.
-
Showcase your school's talent: By promoting your students' participation, you'll put your school on the map as a hub of creativity and imagination.
-
The prize pool gives everyone a chance: With a generous prize pool of $20,000, the Dymocks Beyond Words Creative Writing Competition is the largest of its kind in Australia! Prizes are awarded across multiple categories, ensuring that a diverse range of voices are recognized and celebrated.
This year we have a first prize of $3,000 for High School and $2,000 for Primary School students (as well as plenty more prizes) to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity.
In addition to our main prizes, some of our special prizes include:
-
First Nations Prize: $1,000
-
EALD Prize: $1,000
-
Regional Prize: $1,000
-
Greater Western Sydney Prize: $1,000
-
LGBTQIA+: $1,000
-
Foster a love of literature: This competition offers students an opportunity to express themselves and develop a passion for reading and writing.
-
Get access to creative writing resources: during the course of the competition we will create and share resources to assist with fostering a love of creative writing.
Entries opened on the 1st of March and they will close on 31 May 2024, with winners announced on 11 October 2024. Encourage your students to submit their original stories of 500-1,500 words via the competition website at https://beyondwords.dymockstutoring.edu.au/
